General Appearance

 Ideal Height for dogs - 18.5" - 19.5"

Short backed, rounded head, muzzle with tight fitting lips, ears rather short, cobby type, tail about 4 inches long or naturally bobtailed.

Nose:    Color to tone in with the darkest body color according to whether the dog is orange/white, liver/white, or black/white.  Nostrils well opened slightly slanting.    Faults: Pinched nostrils, Butterfly nose.  Dark nose and pigment are permitted in all the colors

Lips:    Fine, quite tight fitting.  The top lip slightly overlaps the bottom lip.  Faults: Too thick-set or overhung flews.

Muzzle:     Shorter than the width of the skull.  Straight or slightly curved in the proportion of 3/2 with the skull.  Faults:  Too short or too long.  

Skull:      Rounded, of medium length.  Lateral walls well rounded.  Medium stop and gentle slope.  Faults:  Square, apple headed, too pronounced occiput.  No stop. 

Eyes:    Dark amber to tone in with coat color.  Lively and expressive.  Faults:  Too light or bird/prey eyes.

Ears:    Set high, better short than long, slightly rounded, lightly fringed.  Faults:  Low set, pendulous, large, very curly.

Neck:    Of Medium length, well set into shoulders, no throatiness.  Faults:  Too long, too thin, too thick set, too short.

Shoulders:    Sloping and muscular.  Faults:  Straight or too angulated.

Forelegs:    Muscled and bony.  Faults:  Bone too fine, or too heavy.

Chest:    Deep, let down to elbow, well sprung ribs.  Faults:  narrow, not deep enough, slab sided.

Back:    Short, well defined withers, never curved.  Faults:  Too long, or hollow backed.

Loins:  Short, big, and strong.  Faults:  Long, weak, and narrow.

Hindquarters:  Lower than the withers, slight slope up the back.

Croup:      Slightly falling away.  Faults:   Too narrow or too sloping.

Flanks:    Well rounded without excess.  Faults:  Fat and too sloping.

Tail:  Held level or down.  Unless the dog is bob-tailed always short, about 4 inches, often ending in a twist of hair.  Faults:  Long, bare.

Front legs:    Very straight, pasterns slightly bent, fine and muscled.  Feathering:  Slight and wavy.  Faults:  Pasterns too straight or too sloping.  No feathering.

Hind legs:      Strong, well muscled thighs.  Hocks and buttocks on the same vertical line.  Wavy light feathering to mid thigh.  Hocks well let down, stifle not too bent.  Faults:  Straight stifles, no feathering.  Too straight or too angulated.

Feet:    Tight feet, a little hair between the toes.  Faults:  Big, long, too round or too open.

Skin:    Fine, fairly loose.  Faults:  Too thick or too loose.

Coat:    Body coat usually flat, fine and slightly wavy.  Faults:  Curly or silky.

Coat color:    Orange/white, liver/white, black/white, tri-color, or roan of any of these.

Summary: Small, elegant dog, thick set, strong backed, vigorous, energetic in its movements with and intelligent look, giving the appearance of a thoroughbred cob.
